The Genesis: Over the years, I would catch Chris playing with a jazz combo around town and afterwards, he would suggest that we do something together sometime. I always liked the idea of performing with him, always thought his sound was fresh, but as often happens, the idea remained just a notion without a solid plan. In early 2023, he mentioned a possible date for a live show and that sealed it. During the rehearsals leading up to the show, we discovered that both of our instruments-my voice and his upright bass—were complementary in a way that revealed things easily missed in a traditional reading or musical performance. Something Like We Did is the permanent record of this collaboration.
